What Herald is
Herald is a free web directory built in the tradition of the chronicle: a factual, ordered record of working websites filed by topic. The 831 entries currently on file span twenty-two sections — from healthcare and legal services to technology, travel, and everything between.
Every site in the Herald record has been checked against a live domain. There are no automated scrapers and no paid placements: what appears in the chronicle has been reviewed by a person before it went to press.
Herald is organised simply. The homepage carries recently-added entries and a list of every section. Each section page shows all sites in that part of the chronicle, a guide to what the category contains, and a short editorial note on the range of entries. Navigation is intentional — browse by section, or use the section list to find the right file.
The directory is funded by nothing; it costs nothing to browse and nothing to list a site. Herald has no membership tiers, no promoted listings, and no tracking of its readers. The record is the product.
Adding a site is straightforward: click the add link on any page, enter a URL and a category, and submit. Herald's editorial team reviews the submission and, if the site is live and appropriate to its chosen section, files it in the chronicle. Most entries are processed promptly.
